Heat setting is done for several reasons. it can be done to align the yarns of a fabric and lock them in place without adding a chemical component. Heat set on natural fibers improve the look of wrinkles or is used to aide in reduction of shrinkage as natural fibers do not hold to a memory. Synthetic materials will heat set once a certain temperature is reached and the alignment will then be held after the heat set.
